HOW-TO-REMOVE-POLITICS-FROM-YOUR-FACEBOOK-FEED

About every 18 months I get a barrage of questions from development clients and friends about the influx of more than enough politics in their Facebook feeds. Here are 4 great ways to completely remove politics from your Facebook feed!

Back in the ‘good ole days’ the most annoying posts on Facebook were tons of baby photos, engagement announcements and images of family reunions that only the poster had any real interest in.  Fast forward to 2014 and our Facebook feeds became battle grounds  that hearkened back to the civil war!  Nothing is even close to sacred anymore, left vs left, right vs right and left vs right. Its enough to spin your brain.

Now I’m all about staying informed, and I encourage you to do so as well, but if you’re trying to simply maintain sanity in this, the SILLY SEASON, There are a few ways you can simply block the politics from your feed and return to a kinder, gentler Facebook .

4 ways to completely remove politics from your Facebook feed (in reverse order)

Go nuclear, just delete your Facebook account.

It might actually be the most healthy thing to do. Go towards the light and actually enjoy life without all the contentious posts and arguments.

If you think you just CAN’T  do away with Facebook completely, there’s a setting that you can use to pause your account.

You don’t loose friends and everything will be right there waiting on you when you want to come back. You’ll have to remove the app from your mobile device to actually get this to work.

If you use Firefox browser you can install an extension  called Leech Block

Its a productivity add on that designed to block those time-wasting sites that can suck the life out of your working day. All you need to do is specify which sites to block and when to block them.  Yes you can block Twitter too!  Buh bye time suck!

And my go to, favorite for blocking politics and other annoyances on Facebook,  Social Fixer.

Its been around for a long while, and in the early days you had to set up filters yourself. You can still do that, but there are some great built in filters

    1. Sponsored posts annoying you?  There’s a filter for that!
    2. Another subject driving you crazy?  You can filter by keyword, author, or even app!

Surviving the silly season, is possible  and after you’ve used the app for a while you won’t want to do without it. Avoiding all those ads is a bigggggggg plus!
